Our Curriculum
Outdoor Education
The Outdoor Education Program at the College challenges students to develop a range of personal, interpersonal and practical skills, using the outdoors as a powerful tool for learning. Outdoor Education is a compulsory sequential program for all students from Yr 7 through to Yr 10. The program is viewed as part of the curriculum, as the students receive instruction and experience in important areas such as fitness, first aid and leisure and survival skills. Activities cover experiences in canoeing, camping, bush craft, bush walking, mountain biking, surfing, horse riding and orienteering.
Part of the Outdoor Education Programme is conducted at Garema, a camp site owned by the College and located in the Brisbane Ranges, one and a half hours drive from the College. Garema has excellent accommodation for staff and students and a range of facilities have been developed including:
• a flying fox
• high and low ropes courses
• a ‘pampa pole’
• mountain bikes
• orienteering and bush walking trails
Garema is also used for incidental weekend Homegroup and subject based camps.
Use is also made of campsites at Anglesea and Lake Mountain for the year level Outdoor Education Program.
