RES Interactions

An Introduction to RES Interactions at Caroline Chisholm Catholic College

At Caroline Chisholm Catholic College, we work towards ensuring that all interactions by students, staff and wider community members are Respectful, Engaging and Safe.

These three key interactions were thoughtfully developed by student leaders, reflecting the kind of school community they desired to create. Through strong student advocacy, these values have been authentically embraced, allowing for a smooth and meaningful integration into everyday school life. They are not simply displayed on posters, but are actively modelled and reflected upon by students, staff and the wider community.

These shared expectations guide behaviour, shape relationships and support an inclusive environment where all feel valued and heard and secure. Their importance lies in creating consistency, promoting wellbeing, and encouraging every member of our community to take responsibility for their actions. By upholding these principles together, we ensure our school remains a place where everyone can learn and belong.

RES Interactions at St John's

At St John’s Campus, we recognise that clear expectations, positive relationships and consistent support are essential in helping students feel settled, focused and ready to learn. Throughout this term, our Year 7, 8 and 9 students have been involved in a range of programs designed to strengthen respectful behaviours, personal responsibility and their ability to positively contribute to our school community.

Our Year 9 students have recently commenced a program delivered in partnership with the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation. Across six interactive sessions, students are engaging with key topics such as respectful relationships, effective communication, teamwork and understanding the impact of their actions on others.

Through structured activities and guided discussions, students are encouraged to reflect on their choices, build accountability and develop practical strategies for managing social situations in a positive and respectful way. The program supports students to strengthen peer relationships, practise cooperation and understand the behavioural expectations that contribute to a safe and inclusive learning environment. It also reinforces the supports available within the College and the wider community.

Many of our Year 7 students have also recently participated in a Student Resilience Program facilitated by Emilia, our School Social Worker. Delivered over three Thursday morning sessions, the program focused on supporting students to successfully transition into secondary school by developing positive habits, routines and approaches to managing challenges.

Throughout the program, students explored practical strategies for responding to setbacks, making constructive choices, building positive friendships and seeking support when required. The sessions also provided a structured environment for students to practise respectful interactions, strengthen peer connections and reinforce a shared understanding of expectations within the St John’s community.

These programs form an important part of our ongoing commitment to promoting positive behaviour, strengthening student accountability and creating a learning environment where all students are supported to engage, contribute and succeed.

Student Engagement and Positive Behaviour at Sacred Heart

At Sacred Heart Campus, we continue to focus on creating a positive and supportive learning environment through our RES framework – Respectful, Engaged and Safe. RES underpins our expectations for student behaviour and provides a consistent approach to promoting positive choices across the campus.

Throughout the term, students have participated in a range of Learner Mentor (LM) activities focused on developing respectful relationships, demonstrating kindness, and contributing positively to our school community. These conversations have encouraged students to reflect on how their actions impact others and how they can support a culture of inclusion and belonging.

With exams and assessment periods underway, there has also been a strong emphasis on student engagement and effective study habits. Students recently participated in sessions delivered by Elevate Education, where they were provided with practical strategies for exam preparation, revision techniques, time management, and maintaining motivation throughout the assessment period. These sessions, together with ongoing support through Learner Mentor activities, have equipped students with valuable tools to approach their studies with confidence and achieve their personal best.

A further focus this term has been on school uniform expectations. Promoting high standards of uniform presentation helps foster a sense of pride, belonging, and professionalism while reinforcing our commitment to maintaining a respectful and positive learning environment. Students have responded positively to these expectations, helping to strengthen our culture of excellence and school pride.

We are proud of the way our students continue to embrace the values of being Respectful, Engaged and Safe, and we look forward to building on this positive momentum throughout the remainder of the year.

Director of Campus, Sacred Heart

Student Events and Activities

Year 11 First Aid Training

Congratulations to our Year 11 students who recently completed their First Aid Training as a part of their Certificate III in Health Services Assistance.

They did a wonderful job demonstrating their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting with CPR, bandaging, slings and more.

Year 8 CTK Stress Management Session

Our Year 8 Christ the King students recently completed a session on managing exam stress and anxiety ahead of their practice examinations.

It was an incredibly helpful program, giving students tools to cope with the emotional exhaustion and stress that can come with formal assessments. We hope these methods will support our students throughout their time with us and into their futures.

Year 8 Reflection Day

Our Reflection Days continue to be a highlight of our students’ calendars, with our Year 8 students recently completing their Term 2 Reflection Day. Students participated in games to get to know one another and themselves, led by the Youth Mission Team.

They explored themes of self-worth, values, respect for others, and what it means to live a good Christian life.

World's Biggest Morning Tea

Our staff came together for the World’s Biggest Morning Tea, sharing food and conversation while raising money for the Cancer Council.

The staff raised more than $1000 and were grateful to hear from a guest speaker on the day.

Senior Pathways Evening

Our Senior Pathways Evening was an incredible success, and we were thrilled to see so many students and families actively involved.

The evening presented options for students as they explore what their future could look like, both at the College and in further study and training as adults.

Thank you to the incredible staff who set up stalls and spoke with our families so enthusiastically about their respective subjects.

Garema-Dumont Camps

Our Garema campsite has been incredibly busy, with many of our students attending camps so far in 2026.

The site continues to be an incredible place of reflection and growth for our College, and we hope all our students enjoy the opportunity to visit.

Sacred Heart Senior Games

During extended LM, some of our Year 12 Sacred Heart students took a break from preparing for their upcoming exams and played a number of games in the BDH.

This session gave students a chance to decompress and relieve stress in a healthy way in the lead-up to assessments.

Congratulations to Marley Gamboa

A big congratulations to Marley Gamboa from Year 7, who recently competed in The Australian Federation of Brasilian Jiu Jitsu Inc state competition.

Marley managed to secure two Bronze medals on the day, which is an incredible achievement! Congratulations to Marley, and we can't wait to see what you achieve in the future!

An Update From the Parents and Friends Society

Many thanks to the Parents and Friends Committee, who advocated for the installation of bollards to improve the safety of CCCC students using the laneway to and from school each day. We are pleased to share that Maribyrnong Council has now installed these.

A big win for our school community!

Western Bulldogs' Youth Leadership Project

We had 10 students from the College who embarked on the Youth Leadership Project (YLP) with the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation.

This 10-week program runs over six months, with participants taking part in workshops and camps. It has been a wonderful program so far, with students from across the western suburbs gaining real-world experience, especially in developing community projects that help them explore leadership styles and consider where their future may take them.

Youth Mayor for a day with Maribyrnong City Council

Our Year 11 student, Alice Xerri, shadowed Maribyrnong Mayor, Councillor Mohamed Semra, as part of the Youth Mayor for a Day program.

Alice made a positive impact, representing both our school and Maribyrnong City Council with pride. She demonstrated strong leadership and resilience, gaining valuable insight into civic decision-making and the policies that shape our local community, including partnerships with community organisations that create meaningful impact.

Youth Mayor for a Day is part of broader youth engagement programs run by Maribyrnong City Council and supported through the Phoenix Youth Hub. These initiatives also include the Maribyrnong Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC), of which our Year 11 student, Nick Kaminski, is a member.

Our students will also be attending the Maribyrnong Youth Forum on 12 June, as part of the continued efforts of the Maribyrnong Youth Team to engage young people in civic matters and active decision-making.

2026 Youth Parliament

Our three Year 11 students, Eliza Morris, Nyandeng Mayen, and Leah Nguyen, attended a three-day training weekend at the residential Lake Dewar Discovery Camp as part of Youth Parliament.

Youth Parliament is an annual residential program run by the YMCA in partnership with Maribyrnong Youth Services, involving participants from local government areas across Victoria. The program brings together 120 young people to advocate for issues that matter to them and their communities.

Participants learn about the Victorian legislative system and develop a Bill on an issue they are passionate about. One example of the program’s real impact is the introduction of free Myki travel, which was proposed by a previous cohort.

This year’s group will develop proposed Bills that will be debated in Parliament and may be passed into law.

Access Pass with KPMG

Our CCCC students had the opportunity to spend a day at KPMG in an immersive five-hour curated workshop experience, which was targeted at students of African heritage. VM/VCE teacher Mr Justin Banks accompanied the students, as the program was designed by the KPMG team to provide access to top corporate and industry-leading companies, and insights into real-world business practices.

The workshop was an enriching experience for our students, providing them with valuable exposure to professional environments, strengthening their understanding of workplace expectations, and inspiring them to consider future study and career pathways in business and related fields.

Winter Music Concert

Congratulations to all the students who did such an incredible job on Tuesday night performing in our Winter Music Concert!

The performances were amazing, and the audience was blown away with the quality of musicians and training.

Well done to all who performed, and a big thank you to the behind-the-scenes staff who worked so hard to make the night such a big success!

The Feast of Corpus Christi – Sunday 7th June

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, commonly known as Corpus Christi, is celebrated by the Catholic Church as a special opportunity to honour the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. This feast reminds us that the Eucharist is at the heart of our faith, nourishing us spiritually and strengthening us to live as disciples of Christ.

As we celebrate Corpus Christi, we are invited to reflect on the gift of Jesus, who gives Himself to us in Holy Communion and calls us to be His presence in the world. Through acts of service, kindness, and compassion, we become living witnesses to Christ's love, sharing the blessings we have received with others.

May this feast inspire our College community to grow in faith and to live our theme, "Be the Salt of the Earth: Serve with Humility and Compassion," bringing Christ's love to all those we encounter.

Prayer

Loving God,

As we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, we give thanks for the gift of Jesus Christ, present among us in the Eucharist.

As we receive the Bread of Life, nourish our hearts with faith, hope, and love. Help us to recognise Christ not only at the altar but also in the faces of those we meet each day.

May the Body and Blood of Christ strengthen our school community to live as His disciples, serving others with humility, showing compassion to those in need, and working for justice and peace.

As members of this school community, help us to make choices that reflect Your love and respect for all people. Guide us to act with integrity, to speak with kindness, and to treat one another with dignity.

When challenges arise, give us the patience to listen, the wisdom to understand, and the courage to respond in ways that build up our community rather than divide it.

Help us to recognise that our behaviour affects those around us. May we be mindful of our words and actions, taking responsibility for our choices and seeking opportunities to grow when we make mistakes.

May our school be a place where compassion is stronger than judgment, where humility leads to understanding, and where every person feels valued and supported.

Bless our students, families, and staff. May we always be united in Your love and inspired by the example of Jesus to be the salt of the earth and a light to the world.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
