At Caroline Chisholm Catholic College, we recognise that every student has individual strengths, needs and ways of learning. Our Learning Diversity Program is dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where all students are given the opportunity to participate fully in their learning and reach their potential.

Our Learning Diversity team works closely with students, teachers and families to identify individual learning needs and develop tailored strategies that support both academic and personal growth. Support is responsive to each student and may include classroom assistance, targeted learning support, access to specialised resources and adjustments to help students engage confidently in College life.

Archibald Learning Centre

The Archibald Learning Centre (ALC) is the hub of our Learning Diversity Program, with a dedicated ALC located at both our 204 and 65 sites.

The ALC provides a quiet, welcoming and supportive environment where students can access additional assistance, refocus or take time away from the demands of the school day when needed. Students can also access homework and study support, learning resources and technology, structured study sessions and support with assessments and examinations.

The ALC reflects our commitment to ensuring students have access to the spaces, resources and people they need to feel supported and experience success at school.

Support in the Classroom

Our Learning Support Officers (LSOs) work alongside teachers to provide additional assistance to students within the classroom and across their school day.

Support is tailored to individual needs and may include additional guidance within particular subjects, assistance during activities or programs, or support with navigating learning routines and expectations. By providing support within the learning environment, our LSOs help students develop confidence, independence and greater engagement in their learning.

English as an Additional Language

Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) Program supports students whose first language is not English, including international students and students who are developing their English language proficiency.

Grounded in the Victorian EAL Curriculum, the program develops students' reading, writing, listening and speaking skills while building the academic language required to successfully access all areas of the curriculum.

Support is personalised to each student's stage of language development and may include in-class assistance, differentiated learning, structured scaffolds and targeted small-group or individual support.

In the senior years, students undertaking VCE English as an Additional Language receive specialised preparation aligned with the requirements of the VCE study design, including support with analytical writing, text response and examination preparation.

Through the EAL Program, we aim to build not only language proficiency, but also students' confidence, independence and sense of belonging within the College community.
