Welcome to the Operations Portfolio
As we begin Term 4, I am pleased to introduce the Operations Portfolio and provide our College community with a little more insight into the work that sits behind the day-to-day life of Caroline Chisholm Catholic College.
Operations is a broad portfolio that touches almost every part of College life. It encompasses the coordination of our daily organisation, staffing and timetabling, College events and activities, facilities and campus operations, risk and compliance, student movement, supervision, and the many logistical arrangements that allow our campuses to function effectively each day.
While much of this work happens behind the scenes, its impact is very visible. Whether it is ensuring students and staff are in the right place at the right time, coordinating a major College event, responding to an unexpected change during the school day, supporting safe and well-maintained learning environments, or planning ahead for the following year, the purpose remains the same: to create the conditions in which our students and staff can thrive.
One of the things I value most about the Operations Portfolio is the way it connects across all areas of the College. Operations does not sit separately from learning and teaching, student wellbeing and engagement, faith and mission, or community. Instead, our work supports each of these areas. Good operational planning allows teachers to focus on teaching, provides students with access to meaningful opportunities and experiences, supports staff to undertake their roles effectively, and helps ensure our College remains a safe, welcoming and well-organised environment.
Working across our campuses also means recognising the unique character and needs of each community while ensuring that we continue to operate as one College. This requires collaboration across many teams and, importantly, the willingness of staff to adapt, problem-solve and support one another when plans inevitably change.
For me personally, this is what makes the portfolio so rewarding. I enjoy bringing together people, systems and ideas to find practical solutions, particularly when those solutions make things easier for our staff or create better experiences for our students. There is something very satisfying about seeing the planning behind an event, timetable, program or initiative come together and knowing that the work behind the scenes has enabled something meaningful to happen for our community.
As we move through the final term of the year, the Operations Team will continue to support the many events, celebrations, learning experiences and transitions that make Term 4 such a busy and exciting time at the College. At the same time, significant planning is already underway for 2027 as we prepare our staffing, timetables, spaces and systems for another year.
